What is Alcohol and Drug Rehab?

When thinking about addiction recovery, you might be thinking what you’ll experience during a typical day at rehab. There are actually several kinds of drug addiction recovery treatments available, but all follow a basic framework of treatments. Many residential inpatient rehab centers are very orderly and structured, using similar therapies and activities in all facilities. However, if you prefer a more lenient environment, then outpatient rehab programs may be right for you.

If you are an adult struggling with various forms of addictions, group therapy is an option that will be explored by many rehab professionals. Group therapy allows people to share their thoughts, feelings and experiences, which create an atmosphere where understanding can happen easily. People who suffer from different addictions can also benefit from the understanding that others are going through the same things as they are. Group therapy is often quite successful in overcoming addictions, and many people find it highly effective when it comes to their own recovery. In some cases, individual counseling may also be offered as part of a rehab program.

Alcohol Addiction: Signs, Complications, and Recovery

Most people associate outpatient drug rehab centers with the term “inpatient.” This is because many who attend these programs require commitment for the duration of the program and ongoing support after it is finished. Most people who are addicted to drugs have mental health issues that need to be treated simultaneously with their addictions. In fact, mental health conditions such as depression and bipolar disorder can sometimes be symptoms of drug use disorders.

Psychological problems such as depression and anxiety can make it difficult to function when you are not sober and can cause relapse when you return to your previous habits. Inpatient rehab treatment centers offer both inpatient services and therapy sessions in order to address these psychological issues. The physical aspect of addiction is addressed through detoxification, which generally involves medically supervised detoxification in an outpatient setting. Patients will be prescribed medications during this time in order to assist them with the withdrawal symptoms that may occur.

After detox, outpatient rehab facilities may offer counseling sessions in private or group settings. These counseling sessions are geared towards helping individuals re-adjust to living an alcohol or drug-free lifestyle. Many centers offer a pre-rehab program that is given to patients upon their initial admission to the facility. This pre-rehab program will help those who wish to quit drugs and/or alcoholism to prepare for their first outpatient rehab program. Upon successful completion of the program, most centers will provide continued counseling and support for patients.

If you are ready to start an inpatient drug rehab treatment program, there are several things you should look for in an excellent treatment facility. First, the treatment center should have a strong and experienced staff. Staff should be knowledgeable about the addiction-based treatments that are available at the treatment facility and should be able to guide you in selecting the treatment method that best suits your needs. Next, be sure to find out what kinds of activities are offered in the drug rehab program. These should include but are not limited to, individual or group counseling, spiritual guidance, life skills training, and a variety of social and educational activities. Finally, find out if your treatment center offers peer counseling or a support group program for families or friends of patients.
